Encounter the faith narrative from creation to Christianity.

CONFIRM YOUR FAITH…

Embrace the essential beliefs and practices of The United Methodist Church.

LIVE YOUR COMMITMENT.

Embody the confirmation vows and embark on the Christian discipleship journey.

Confirmation is not the beginning or the end of the faith journey. Confirmation is about making disciples. It is that simple and that challenging.

Credo (Greek meaning “I Believe”) is a confirmation program that is not your conventional classroom experience! It brings worship, Sunday school, Bible study, service, and church ministries into confirmation.

This year 5th and 6th graders are invited to take part in the Credo Confirmation program during Sunday School each week. Please make plans now to be in attendance for our orientation meeting on Sunday, August 22, 2010, upstairs in the Factory.

Once, at a ministerial alliance meeting, several of us pastors were visiting with a new Nazarene pastor. He was describing his denomination to the group and said, “We are a lot like the Methodist, but we believe in the Holy Spirit.” Everyone laughed, I grinned and replied, “We believe in the Holy Spirit, but he’s usually not so rowdy with us.”

May 23 is Pentecost Sunday. Fifty days have past since we celebrated the Resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday. The followers of Jesus are together and the promised gift of the Holy Spirit breaks in upon them.

When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance. (Acts 2:1-4 NASV)

Every Christian disciple receives the gift of the Holy Spirit. It is an awesome gift that enables us to be strong in times of struggle, to have faith in times of doubt, and to speak truth in times of uncertainty. In the Gospel of John, Jesus breathed the Holy Spirit into the disciples in the upper room. But in Acts the Holy Spirit “suddenly” enters with the force of a “might wind.”

On the Day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit caused a great disturbance in Jerusalem and many responded to the witness of the disciples and were saved. That same Holy Spirit is still at work in the church in quiet ways and rowdy ways. Your witness will save others. Come, Holy Spirit, Come.

I’ll see you in worship,

Pastor Paul

Are you a people person? Do you like meeting new people? Do you enjoy helping people? If you answer “Yes,” the church needs you to be a Greeter.

Each week first time visitors and repeat visitors come to worship at FUMC. People visit for a variety of reasons but they continue to visit and become a part of the church when they are welcomed and embraced by the congregation.

We are a friendly congregation but sometimes we get busy catching up with folks we haven’t seen all week that we, as a group, neglect our guest. The Witness Committee, responsible for worship and evangelism, has a plan to help FUMC be more intentional in getting to know our visitors. We are recruiting volunteers to be intentional greeters and to conduct follow up visits by telephone and in person during the week.

Designated Greeters of First United Methodist Church will attend training, greet everyone as they enter and exit the facility and commit to serve as scheduled by the greeter coordinator.

Greeter Training

Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. in the Seekers Sunday School Class Room.

The Greeter Manual will be available on May 2 in the church office, ahead of training for all to read.

Please prayerfully consider this opportunity to Serve God with Love.

Finals time is fast approaching and if there is a more powerful example of a “time of trials” for a college student I can’t name it. As our college students come to the end of this school year we are planning to send each of them a care package. The package will contain some snacks, a toy or two and a lot of love. This is one tangible way we remind our college students that we love them and care for them.

Please take time this Sunday to let the church know the current address of your college student. There will be a sign up sheet on the table in the Narthex or you can email the information to fumcfairfield@gmail.com.

Thanks for continuing to support our college students in prayer.
